Initial Report

To put my use of this product into better perspective I would mention that my meal of choice while on the trail consist of some type of broth/burgoo, with vegetables and/or pasta. My favorite is sparse soup made with broth, dried vegetables and tortellini. I like that this sort of repast is satisfying, warming, and an boosted source of hydration which is important to me as I often struggle to keep hydrated especially in cold conditions. This sort of meal is too quick and easy to set up, and the ingredients are lightweight and crave minimal cooking. I would also mention an oddity with my food preferences. Equally much as I like big bold flavorful nutrient and really like hot spicy nutrient, I find when I am on the trail I adopt mild and even bland food. Finally, I am an admitted coffee snob. Bated for one item brand I refuse to drink instant coffee. Fifty-fifty on the trail I will cull tea or just go without rather than drink bad coffee. "Life is likewise brusque to drink bad coffee or bad beer."

I will start off with the 'elephant in the room' protein coffee?!?! I admit I was more than a little skeptical when I heard of it.  So when I received the products I could non assistance but try the java immediately. First affair I noticed is that information technology quickly dissolved in the water, and to my surprise tasted like java...null else. Equally far as coffee goes, to my admittedly spoiled palate it is drinkable but I would non go then far as to say it is good. Which for me could be taken as loftier praise for an instant java.

Regarding the beefiness and craven broths, upon being selected for this test I establish a local store carries these two flavors of LonoLife and I have already been taking it to work with me for tiffin or afternoon snack. I constitute the craven to exist very flavorful and I similar information technology a lot. The beef is surprisingly subtle in its taste and it was not until the second serving that I began to capeesh just how practiced it is. Now I am having problem deciding which I like amend. I will mention here that I have found the pulverization to be a chip hydrophobic then I take had some difficulty getting information technology to fully dissolve. My first serving of the chicken broth but nigh 2/3 of the mix dissolved into the water. When I got to the bottom of the mug and realized this I tasted the remaining sludge of concentrated mix...that was a fault. It was very unpleasant and I won't exist doing that again. To be fair I sometimes have too had trouble with getting bullion cubes to fully dissolve and they are likewise very unpleasant to gustatory modality in their full-bodied form. I volition study later on on what I experience with getting this to mix while on the trail.

Finally the Thai Curry, which is a version of the beef goop. I opened the bundle and immediately noticed an overwhelming smell of lemon grass. I am non a big fan of lemon grass equally I notice it tin can easily overpower a dish and be unpleasant unless it is used very sparingly. So I was pleasantly surprised to find the lemon grass flavour is not overpowering and the broth having but a little bit of rut(spice). In fact information technology is kind of good. It will be interesting to encounter if I withal like it on the trail or find the flavour/spice too much.

Likes/Dislikes:
I capeesh the convenience of the  single serving packaging. No measuring or for that matter fifty-fifty thinking is involved. But I accept establish information technology necessary to cut open up the packages, and would prefer if they were easier to tear open up. Some other thing I noticed is that compared to the bullion cubes I ordinarily use these are a little bulkier, but do not seem to weigh more.

Long Term Report

June iii 2019
Employ:White Pass
  • Nordic skiing – x6 days (see notes)
  • Snowshoeing – Washington Cascades, ~4 mi/6.5 km just beneath freezing temps, clear calm weather
  • Day hikes – x2 intermittent pelting, light wind, temps around 50F / 10C
  • Backpacking 1 nighttime
  • Daily use (abode & function)

Nigh of my apply has been to drink it every bit a snack or a warming drink on cold days while Nordic skiing. Weather ranged from just above freezing to well beneath with snow. A typical 24-hour interval involved skiing for about iii-4hrs too as some contrasted other duties outdoors and in. A couple of times while skiing I drank some as function of my dejeuner. I managed a short spring 'shake down' backpacking trip with my dog. Weather condition was warm during the day and got downward shut to freezing at dark. For my dinner I simmered cheese tortellini in two packets of the chicken goop. I have also had a few packets at abode and at the office equally a snack or as part of my lunch.

I found drinking the broth as a welcome alter to evidently water both as a snack or equally part of my dejeuner. Broth with pasta is kind of my go-to dinner while hiking and I found the craven broth perfect for this. When consuming it as a drink the chicken was good, but I found the beefiness more than satisfying. While I won't say I don't like the Thai Curry, given the choice between it and the other two flavors, information technology was my last choice.

I besides drank the coffee for all but the day hikes. Not sure I can add to what I have already said about the java, in my opinion it is fairly average equally far as instant coffee goes. The poly peptide may or may non be beneficial, I would like to call back it is, but have no way to tell either way.

Overall I similar the product and plan to get more of the beefiness and chicken broths, but doubtfulness I would buy any more of the coffee or Thai Back-scratch.

This concludes my Report. I would like to thank the folks at LONOLIFE and BackpackGearTest.org for the opportunity to test this product.
